Catch Me If You Can

Who got my attention? It's Carl Hanratty.

Usually in the movies, FBI agents are smart, agile, comfortable with their guns, and brave enough to walk into the middle of the crime scene. But in this movie, Carl is far away from ordinary agents. He wears black, thick glasses like a nerd and doesn't even know how handle his gun. He looks more like an officer who works 24/7 in front of the desk starring at the computer monitor. These kinds of appearances can give a special impression to the audience. And personally, I like Tom Hanks who played Carl Hanratty in this movie.

Tom Hanks was born in California on July 9, 1956. He became popular by plaing a main role in the movie 'Big(1988)'. After that, he won the Academy Awards two times in a row with his magnificent acting in 'Philadelphia(1993)' and 'Forest Gump(1994)'. Now, he is not only a tremendous actor but also an influential producer who is having an effect on Hollywood.

As an FBI agent, he has to catch Frank. And there is one obvious obstacle. It is Frank's cleverness. To catch Frank, he has to think faster and move faster than Frank. You might think Carl Hanratty as a static character, because he always wears spectacle and sitting in his office looking through fake checks. But against your expectation, he is very active in the movie. His naive and foolish actions provide a lot of humor to the audience.

Maybe he will be successful in catching Frank. Even though he looks inert, he is a predominant FBI agent and also as smart as Frank. He will chase after Frank in his own method and finally arrest him. Actually I know how this story ends because I've seen this movie before. But novel? I'm not sure. There is no depiction about Carl Hanratty until Chapter 4. So I can discuss this after finishing not only movie but also novel.

I enjoy the character of Carl Hanratty in the movie, too. In the book, the FBI officers are not as interesting. I think this is mostly because the movie script makes the character more rounded and complete, but I also think it's because Tom Hanks is such a great actor.
